2022 Keenan Mencia, Napa Valley, Spring Mountain Distirct
The very first vintage of our single vineyard Mencía is finally here. Planted on our Spring Mountain estate in 2018 and totally just 1/3 of an acre with only 150 cases produced, this is one of Keenan’s most modest projects. Very dark in color and surprisingly tannic, this is a wine that you’d do well to let rest for a year and allow for further bottle integration. The aromatics are bound up and brooding but suggest robust minerality and complexity with elements of savory cherry accompanied by a host of licorice, anise, and other bitter earthy components. If you insist on drinking this wine young you’d do well to let it breathe for a time before diving in. Cheers!
