2022 Keenan Mataro, Napa Valley, Spring Mountain Distirct
The 2022 single vineyard Mataró marks only the second vintage produced from this young vineyard panted back in 2018. Totaling only 1/3 of an acre, the Mataró is one of Keenan’s smallest projects. This grape is naturally thin skinned and produces a very tight cluster of fruit which makes it vulnerable to a number of issues if it happens to rain late in the season. In September of 2022 it did just that which resulted in an earlier harvest date. The result is a light and bright and super fresh expression that leans heavily into lifted floral aromatics and a lighter presence on the palate. Not quite as dark in color than the 2021, this vintage of our Mataro is tailor made for the upcoming summer months and we’d even encourage you to consider serving this bottle with a mild chill on it, cheers!
